About Me
My name is Tatie, originally from Surabaya, the second biggest town in Indonesia before I moved to Slovenia in 2007. Here, I started working with internet, creating a blog and building a website. I enjoy cooking and living abroad makes me missing all the delicious food from my birth-home country. I am lucky. I was born and grew up in a place where I could enjoy and got spoiled by different kind of yummy MOUTH-WATERING food and beverages. The choice of food in Indonesia is practically unlimited … from street vendor food to fancy restaurants they offer different choices of delicious food. I am always looking forward to go for visiting my homeland and spoil myself with delicious food.

My desire for cooking was passed on to me from my mother. My basic understanding of cooking was built when I was living in Indonesia by observing how she cooks the daily dishes for the whole family. Her instructions and tips help me prepare Indonesian dishes while I live so far away from my homeland where there is no way I can find food stalls along the street selling the Indonesian food I am craving for. Slowly I managed to learn how to mix and match the spices to get the genuine taste. First time I wanted to make Indonesian food, it wasn’t easy because I couldn’t find the ingredients, especially the spices. So I had to substitute the spices with others, for example instead of using candle nuts, I used almond. Fortunately by the time, I found shop that selling Indonesian spices, even though we have to drive about 4 hours to neighbour’s country. We just go there once or twice in a year and buy more for the whole year’s stock. Now I can make almost all the Indonesian food I crave for.
I have been experimenting in my kitchen with recipes I got from my mother, relatives, friends or books. I adapted them to my taste, without losing their original taste. I believe cooking is more than just following rules. It is also about interpreting the recipes and knowing how to adapt them to fit your taste. I started making this website in 2008 and store all the recipes that I’ve tried. I don’t have culinary basic school or photography skill. I created the pictures using my husband’s old digital camera. Just enough to represent the look of the food, no art food involved 🙂 I really hope this website will give others more knowledge about Indonesian food.
ENJOY COOKING!
