How to grow bean sprouts – I remember when I was in elementary school we had an experiment in biology class. It’s actually very simple but I just thought to do it recently after having problem finding bean sprout here, plus when there’s one in local supermarket, the price is quite expensive. So I digged about it – good thing now it’s very easy to find information in internet 🙂
Okay, here things you need :
– Mung beans
– kitchen tissue/cheesecloth or some thin cloth
– strainer or container with small holes
– something to storage the bean (you can use rice cooker if you have)
Follow this step by step how to make it :
Step 1. Take about 2 handfulls of mung bean ( approx. 35 g) . Clean then soak in the water for 24 hours.
Step 2. Remove the beans from the water.
Step 3. Take a container that has little holes for draining the water (I usea steamer plastic from rice cooker), put kitchen tissue or cheese cloth over it then spread the mung beans over it and cover with another kitchen tissue/cheese cloth. Water the beans.
Step 4 . Close the rice cooker and put it inside kitchen cabinet.
If you don’t have rice cooker, just cover the container with dark clean cloth or towel (but not too thick), cover with pan lid and store in dark place. I put inside kitchen cabinet. Don’t forget to put something under the container to drain the water.
Step 5. Water them once or twice a day. It’s important to keep them moist and wet so that the sprouts will nicely grow.
Step 6. After 3 or 4 days you can harvest it and use it.
