On Friday 3rd March 2017, the website was experiencing down time for a day. It turns out that website was down due to too many files generated on the server. The host Hostko was quick to respond and solve the problem. The files were generated because there were many views and visitors and server tried to cache as many files it could, so that it could serve the users as fast as possible. It turns out it stored a bit too many files.
After some file clean up and server maintenance, I decided to look at a bit of web site statistics.
According to Google website stats the site has between 7.000 and 8.000 unique users per month. Since last January the site was viewed by nearly 100.000 people. On average they stay on one page for about a minute and a half before moving on to another. Around 10.000 users in the past year spent over 10 minutes on the site. About 700 users decided to really study the Indonesian food spending over 30 minutes on the site. Or perhaps they were cooking a delicious meal?
What were the visitors cooking? What were they interested in? Most stopped by for some Indonesian deserts and sweets, specifically the martabak manis recipe got the most views. Nothing unusual here since this is what our kids like a lot too.
Most users come from Indonesia, followed closely by US and Australia. A little less users, but still plenty, also come from Singapore, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Canada, the Netherlands, Philippines and Germany. Longest average time spent on a single web page is from Philipines and Canada. Most people access the website using Chrome browser, followed by Safari and Firefox. Internet Explorer and Edge are not too popular with Indonesian food lovers.
Many people these days use various script blockers or prefer to block the internet “cookies” all of which can interfere with Google Analytics. The server stats don’t track so many things. They track more basic things and therefore look even better. Perhaps even a bit too good compared to Google’s data. That’s because crawlers (automated programs that search the web) are counted in them. But on average and even if we take off 30% from the numbers to take crawlers into account, they are still looking quite good. They show that in the last year 282.000 people viewed the website. Between 800 and 1000 unique visitors check the website per day according to the server stats.
Thank you all for visiting, I hope you found what you were looking for. I have plans to improve the website during this year, offer more and even better content. So stay tuned.
